What's happening in the bathroom?

So we’ve been working on the powder bath in our lower level since the end of January and we cannot wait until we are passed the messy stage that we are in right now. Drywall dust is everywhere, mud is everywhere, and stuff is everywhere but I love it anyway!

In 4 weeks we have:

  • Demoed the old toilet, sink, walls and ceiling

  • Added new plumbing shut-offs

  • Added/moved the electrical rough-ins for our pendant lights

  • Installed drywall on the walls and ceiling

  • Mudded and taped

  • Installed the subfloor

It’s so much better already, mostly because it’s now a blank slate. We still have lots to tackle including painting the walls, installing the wall tile and the floor, install the trim and the list goes on and on.

We purchased this gorgeous mid-century dresser from our favourite Winnipeg furniture store Apartment521 and we are going to use it as our vanity in the bathroom. We are also going to be using gold fixtures, marble vinyl tile and the most affordable pendants I have ever seen (we purchased two for $61, whaaat).

We are installing the pendants on either side of the glass brick window and the extra light fixture adds so much brightness to the room already. Previously, there was one fluorescent light in the middle of the bulk head that we were very happy to uninstall. My favourite part about having a split level home is how large the windows are in the basement, it does not feel like a lower level at all!

We are also going to install 2x8” white tiles on the wall behind the vanity in a stacked pattern, so the messy work is definitely not over yet. I’m feeling so much inspiration from the tile in this design by Jen Pinkston from The Effortless Chic.

With the ending so close yet so far away, we are still really proud of the progress so far. Once the paint and tile are done we will definitely be able to motor through the rest. We are aiming to keep this renovation budget under $2000 for everything, comment below if you would like to see a budget breakdown once we are finished! Hopefully we will be done the renovation by spring and it cannot come soon enough! (we are definitely ready to have two washrooms hah!)
